Former Oklahoma OC, Texas assistant Jay Norvell tabbed as head coach by Nevada

Former Oklahoma OC and Texas assistant Jay Norvell is the next head coach at Nevada, according to a report.

Football Scoop reported the news via sources late Wednesday. He will replace Brian Polian, who was 23-27 in four seasons at Nevada.

It will be Norvell's first head coaching job. After stints as offensive coordinator at Nebraska and UCLA, Norvell was hired by Oklahoma as assistant OC in 2008 and promoted to co-OC -- along with Josh Heupel -- in 2011.

He and Heupel were fired by Oklahoma following an 8-5 season in 2014, however.

Norvell then landed at Texas, where he coached wide receivers for the 2015 season.
