TAHLEQUAH — Both ShaeBug Scarberry and Peighton Walker left Cherokee Springs shaking their heads.

But even though the two were kicking themselves over missed shots, both shot in the 70s on Wednesday to stay within reach of the lead at the Class 3A girls state golf tournament.
More importantly, they helped Purcell to a commanding lead halfway through the tournament.
Going into Thursday's second round, the Dragons are 16 strokes ahead of second-place Plainview, 320-336, and 30 strokes ahead of third-place Eufaula.
