Before Mark Mangino landed at Iowa State as their offensive coordinator, Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops pondered bringing is former assistant back into the fold after he resigned as Kansas' head coach in 2009.

"I'm not going to detail that," Stoops said, via Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register. "Between he and I, there was thought of it."

Mangino worked on Stoops' OU staff from 1999-2001, spending one year as the program's offensive line coach and two years as its offensive coordinator. Stoops and Mangino worked closely together on the 2000 national title team, building a relationship that still stands to this day.

"I never really knew if that's something that would happen or not," Mangino said of talks of a potential return. "Things have worked out pretty well for both of us."

After stepping down at Kansas amidst allegations of mistreating players, 2014 marks the first year that Mangino has been a part of an FBS staff in five years.
