Ohio State will have one more captain – seven – than it does returning starters when it takes the field for the season opener Sept. 3 vs. Bowling Green.
Coach Urban Meyer, who named senior center Pat Elflein and quarterback J.T. Barrett and linebacker Raekwon McMillan, both juniors, as captains back in the winter to oversee a youthful squad, announced four more on Friday. They are senior linebacker Joe Burger and cornerback Gareon Conley, defensive end Tyquan Lewis and guard Billy Price, all juniors.
Coincidentally, Conley, Lewis and McMillan are the three returning starters on defense; Barrett, Elflein and Price are the three returning starters on offense.
