‘Incredible journey’ for Ohio State center Pat Elflein lands him Rimington Trophy

COLUMBUS: As Pat Elflein prepared to join Ohio State’s recruiting class of 2012, the Buckeyes’ football program was in turmoil.

Embroiled in an improper benefits scandal, Luke Fickell took over after coach Jim Tressel was forced to resign and OSU stumbled to a 6-7 record. Before Urban Meyer was hired on Nov. 28, some high school players wavered on their commitments.

But not Elflein.

The 3-star offensive lineman from Pickerington North grew up a Buckeye. It was his dream school and he didn’t want to go anywhere else.
