Instant Reaction: Ohio State Pulls Away Late, Beats Michigan 42-28

Michigan gave Ohio State a much tougher test than expected as the game was tied 21-21 late in the third quarter. However, the Buckeyes pulled away with 21 straight points and hung on for the comfortable win, despite losing star quarterback J.T. Barrett late with an apparent leg injury.

Turning Point:

Michigan still had a puncher's chance late in the fourth quarter when quarterback Devin Gardner was sacked and fumbled, and Ohio State's Darron Lee picked up the ball and returned it 33 yards for the clinching touchdown.

Key Stat:

Turnovers have been one of Michigan's biggest problems this season, and that was the case again today. Their two turnovers gave more opportunities to Ohio State, who eventually capitalized.

Ohio State MVP:

J.T. Barrett had a huge game before he got hurt, passing for 176 yards and touchdown while rushing for 86 yards and two more. Running back Ezekiel Elliott also had a big game - particularly once Barrett left the game - rushing for 121 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.

Michigan MVP:

Running back Drake Johnson had a big game to keep the Wolverines in the game, rushing for 74 yards and two touchdowns on just 15 carries.

What’s Next?

Ohio State advances to the Big Ten Championship to face the winner of the Minnesota-Wisconsin game, while Michigan's season is over after failing to qualify for a bowl game.

Many expect Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke to be fired this offseason, and it seems to only be a matter of time until that happens.
