49,407 People Applied to Ohio State for Autumn Semester 2016, A New Record

Ohio State, no doubt helped by burgeoning academics and an elite football team, saw a record amount of prospective students apply to its Columbus campus for autumn semester 2016; Tom Knox of Columbus Business First reported Friday afternoon.

49,407 people applied, which is a 7.6% increase from last year's record-breaking 45,922 applicants.

For comparison, 29,247 prospective students applied in 2011.

Ohio State has raised its academic standards in recent years. Last year's freshman class posted an average score of 28.9 on the ACT, which broke the university's record of 28.
