In essence, there’s a soft deadline for the Raiders to complete a long-term extension with quarterback Derek Carr.
Soft is the key word there, since it’s not like the team will walk away from Carr if talks are still ongoing when the NFL Draft starts Thursday. But Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie indicated Friday that he expects to lock up Carr before then.
Asked if he’s confident the Raiders will extend Carr by Thursday, McKenzie replied, “I feel good about it.”
That makes sense, considering McKenzie has said since January that extending Carr and defensive star Khalil Mack is a priority.
