A family shattered by the death of their father is receiving free tickets from the Oakland Raiders, who heard that Gerald Cummings was shot after reportedly trying to get his son's Raiders hat back from some teenage thieves.
Cummings, 38, was shot on Aug. 3 outside an elementary school in Brooklyn. Days before, his teenage son had had his Raiders cap stolen. When the son thought he saw the perpetrators, he called his father.
Investigators say Cummings may have been attempting to confront them when he was fatally shot in the head and back.
Now, the Raiders are stepping forward to provide a small measure of comfort to the Cummings family.
