Instant Analysis: Raiders Select Obi Melifonwu 56th Overall

After making Gareon Conley their first round selection at 24th overall, the Oakland Raiders continued to work on their secondary in the second round, picking safety Obi Melifonwu out of UConn.

This is an incredible pick by the reigning Executive of the Year, Reggie McKenzie. Melifonwu could have been selected in the first round and no one would have blinked an eye, even if it were the Raiders with the no. 24 pick. Which according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network almost happened.

At 6’4″ 224 pounds, Melifonwu immediately enters the NFL as one of the best athletes.
