Raiders Rumors: Oakland Planning To Release LaMarr Woodley After One Year

Veteran defensive end LaMarr Woodley's time with the Oakland Raiders is drawing to a close, with the franchise reportedly on the verge of releasing him after just one year by the Bay.

Per Dan Hanzus of NFL.com, "NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Raiders do not plan to pick up Woodley's $1 million roster bonus before the league deadline and will release the veteran linebacker, according to a source informed of the Raiders' thinking."

The 30-year-old former Pittsburgh Steelers standout signed a two-year, $14 million deal with the Oakland Raiders last offseason. He didn't live up to his price tag over the first six games of 2014, playing at a less-than-average level before being sidelined for the last ten games of the campaign with a biceps injury.

For GM Reggie McKenzie, Woodley provides a cautionary tale about signing veterans showing clear signs of regression. Whether or not McKenzie learns from this remains to be seen this offseason.
