Oakland Raiders running back Latavius Murray took over the opening 20 minutes or so of the team's 24-20 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, but a helmet-to-helmet hit knocked him out of the game in the middle of the second quarter with concussion symptoms.
Despite Murray's 90-yard TD run (the second of two) and 112 yards on four carries, interim head coach Tony Sparano wasn't quite ready to publicly name Murray the team's featured running back.
"I know what he did, but he played nine plays and unfortunately got hurt. He had a heck of a run," Sparano said during his weekly news conference, via Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group. "He also had the ball out one time, which we need to get corrected."
Sparano did say, however, that Murray will get additional touches when he's cleared to play.
"Like any young player there is progress you've got to see before you feel like you're going to put him out there in those situations," Sparano said. "I've had to see that in practice, and little by little I've seen it and this has kind of been where it has gone."
