A's notes: Pomeranz weighing shoulder surgery

SEATTLE –- A team orthopedist has recommended shoulder surgery for Drew Pomeranz, but the A’s reliever will seek additional opinions before deciding whether to have it.

The procedure, a clavicle resection, typically involves a six-week recovery time. If Pomeranz decides to move forward with the procedure, it shouldn’t interfere with his readiness for spring training if the rehab goes smoothly.

Dr. Will Workman gave the initial review of Pomeranz’s MRI results.

“Drew is going to seek some other opinions and take a look, sit down and deetermine if (surgery) is something he wants to do at this stage, or see if it calms down and feels better down the road,” A’s head trainer Nick Paparesta said.
