Joyce, Chapman homer as A’s drop Cactus opener to Cubs

MESA, Ariz. – Matt Joyce’s day started when he cut in front of the A’s team bus to follow the team’s police escort to the Cubs’ Sloan Park.

The police, not to mention passenger Adam Rosales, were a little surprised.

Then Joyce played about half the game, a 4-3 loss to Chicago, and accounted for a couple of home runs. He hit one of them, then said he could take credit for the other, hit by Matt Chapman, because he and Chapman talked about the best way to approach first-game at-bats.

“I was talking with Chapman before we started,” Joyce, the A’s new right fielder said.
