KANSAS CITY – A’s second baseman Ben Zobrist left Sunday’s game with left knee soreness in the bottom of the fifth against the Royals.
There was no obvious sign of how Zobrist hurt himself. He left the game after Christian Colon beat out an infield single. It was an odd sequence, as Royals second baseman Omar Infante, running at second base, left the game right before Zobrist did, seemingly suffering injuries separately.
Zobrist drove in both of Oakland’s first two runs with singles in the third and fifth. He’s been the team’s No. 3 hitter all season and is a huge asset because of his defensive versatility.
