It was a highly successful Olympics for former Irish athletes in Rio, as more than a dozen coaches and athletes competed, with five claiming medals. Fencing remains Notre Dame’s most dominant sport by far, as the Irish sent five fencers to the Games this year, a program record.

However, participants with Notre Dame ties competed in five other sports as well, displaying a range that is unmatched in Olympic history for Irish athletes. Here’s the full breakdown of how each athlete performed.
