The Fallout From Saturday's Loss To Arizona State In Your Notre Dame Football News Update

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have likely fallen out of contention for a College Football Playoff spot after taking one on the chin in a 55-31 road loss to the #9 Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday.

Per Ted Miller of ESPN.com, "for Notre Dame, the result likely will bring a steep drop in the national polls. It also probably catapults them out of contention for a major bowl game, as spots are now appointed by the CFP selection committee, which isn't going to just pick an undeserving team to sell tickets and spark TV ratings."

Whether or not Notre Dame is "undeserving," their resume' did take a major blow with this 24-point loss - no matter how good Arizona State is or how close the Irish were to turning things around late in the game.

QB Everett Golson pulled the Irish to within three at 34-31 with 6:37 left the game. However, Arizona State would drive it right back for a touchdown before Lloyd Carrington's pick-six put an end to the game and the Irish's College Football Playoff hopes for 2014.

Notre Dame will likely bounce back against a Northwestern team that played (and lost) one of the ugliest games you'll ever see against Michigan on Saturday. However, the Irish will still look back on this loss to Arizona State with a ton of what if's circulating through their heads.
