The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are on the outside looking in at the inaugural Top 4 of the College Football Playoff rankings, despite an impressive 6-1 start to the 2014 NCAA season.

In light of that, head coach Brian Kelly took the committee and other schools to task on a recent addition of the Brian Kelly Radio Show for giving weight to victories over schools in the FCS:

"Why do they get credit for those games? We have played no FCS teams. I'll give you an example. Our guys have played over 175 more snaps than the teams in front of us because we play real teams. And we play real teams every single week. So if you want to say there's no real marquee win on our schedule, then that's fine. But you can't have it both ways. When you look at some of the other schedules, you can't judge Jacksonville State as a "win". You have to take that off because your team only played two quarters of football. We think the quality of our schedule and the power 5 conferences that we play we don't have to apologize for anything, we just have to keep winning."

Notre Dame stands at #6 in the AP standings. However, detractors have claimed that the Irish haven't picked up a marquee win and thus don't belong near the top of the playoff projections.

The committee believed in what the detractors had to say, it looks like, dropping Notre Dame to 10th in their inaugural poll - thus raising Kelly's ire.
