UNI lands shooting guard Tywhon Pickford for 2017

With one final scholarship available for the 2017-18 season, the Northern Iowa men’s basketball team ventured north to fill its roster.

Tywhon Pickford, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Maple Grove High School in Osseo, Minn., announced his Panther commitment via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon.

Pickford chose UNI over offers from Bryant, Ball State, Sienna, Tulane, George Mason and others, as well as reported interest from Michigan State, Nebraska and more.

Pickford announced his commitment with a lengthy post, in which he thanked family, coaches, teammates and others. He then ended it with the news.

“It has been a long journey,” Pickford wrote, “and with that being said, I am proud to announce that I will be furthering my education and basketball career at the University of Northern Iowa.
