John Chayka Reportedly to Be Named Coyotes GM: Latest Contract Details, Reaction

The Arizona Coyotes haven't qualified for the NHL playoffs since 2012, and they're reportedly making an unconventional move to try to snap a four-year postseason drought.

According to a Wednesday report by ESPN.com's Craig Custance, the Coyotes are set to name 26-year-old John Chayka as the team's new general manager at a press conference Thursday. Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press confirmed the news.

Once the move is official, Chayka will be the NHL's youngest general manager.

The Coyotes hired Chayka as their assistant general manager in May 2015, but he lasted less than a year in that role after the front office fired former general manager Don Maloney in April.
