Source: Gronk to be put on IR, done for season

The New England Patriots will place tight end Rob Gronkowski on injured reserve, ending his season, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates on Saturday.

Gronkowski had back surgery on Friday after suffering a pulmonary contusion to his lung. The injury initially was traced to the big hit he absorbed from Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas on Nov. 13.

RB DJ Foster will take Gronkowski's spot on the roster.
