Prep football: Waunakee holds on to No. 3 spot in Division 1 state rankings

The local trend continued steady — for some, even upward — in this week’s Associated Press state high school football rankings.

Waunakee (6-0) held on to its No. 3 ranking in the large-school classification. Verona (6-0), tied for sixth last week, was ranked sixth on its own this time.

Also among large schools, Middleton (5-1), which has lost only to Verona, climbed up one spot to No. 8, and Sun Prairie (5-1) was ranked 12th.

Kimberly (6-0), which tied Manitowoc’s state record for consecutive victories with 48 on Friday, remained a unanimous No. 1.
