Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle to miss next five games after suffering recurrence of hamstring injury

Dwight Gayle is set to miss Newcastle’s next FIVE matches after suffering a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

The Championship’s 20-goal top scorer returned to make his first start in more than a month during Monday night’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.

But Gayle lasted only 35 minutes before being withdrawn and sources say he faces 'at least a few weeks' on the sidelines, ruling him out of the key away trips to promotion rivals Brighton, Huddersfield and Reading, as well as home matches against Bristol City and Fulham.

Indeed, it is unlikely he will be available before the trip to Birmingham City on March 18 at the earliest.
