Yankees Trade Rumors: Craig Kimbrel To NY Before The Deadline?

The New York Yankees are reportedly looking for starting pitching before the July 31st MLB Trade Deadline, but that may stop them from trying to deal for one of the premier closers in all of baseball.

Via NJ.com:

"According to ESPN's Buster Olney, a surprise move that could happen as the July 31 trade deadline approaches could give the Yankees perhaps the best bullpen back end in the league.
"Olney said the Yankees could be a potential suitor for Padres' righty closer Craig Kimbrel, a 27-year-old with a 2.97 ERA and 26 saves this season."

Kimbrel has been more than serviceable in his first year with the San Diego Padres, pitching to a 2.97 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 26 saves in 27 opportunities. However, those numbers have ballooned in comparison to his career 1.60 ERA and 0.93 WHIP.

The Padres' closer is also due $24 million over the next two seasons with a $1 million buyout for 2018, so it could be a long shot with other options like the Reds' Aroldis Chapman and the Brewers' Francisco Rodriguez dangling out there on the trade market.
