CHICAGO -- Struggling reliever Tyler Clippard nearly blew it for the Yankees before Dellin Betances actually did.
But manager Joe Girardi said Clippard did a "fabulous" job in what ended up a 4-3 loss to the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on Tuesday.
"Clip did a fabulous job getting out of that," the manager said.
Betances eventually gave up two runs in the ninth inning to end it.
Before that, however, Clippard was tasked with a pressure situation at time when it seemed Girardi would rather go to anybody else but the veteran right-hander.
