Report: Yankees, Didi Gregorius avoid arbitration

According to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball, the New York Yankees and shortstop Didi Gregorius settle at $5.1 million to avoid arbitration. Baseball arbitration is a legal process of determining a player’s salary when the player and the team cannot come to an agreement as to the salary amount. Both the team and the player present a neutral arbitrator a one-year salary. The arbitrator then decides on a fair amount based on the player’s statistical information and merit.

Gregarious became eligible for arbitration after spending three seasons with the Yankees. After six years of playing with an organization, the player can elect to become a free agent.
