ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Mark Teixeira’s name was in a batting practice group, but the Yankees’ switch-hitting first baseman did nothing more than ice his neck problem.
“Ice again today,’’ said Teixeira, who missed his third straight game Friday night due to neck spasms. He received a cortisone shot Thursday and the hope is that he can return Sunday or Monday. “Cortisone takes a while. [Saturday] we will do more treatment and try and loosen everything up. Hopefully the cortisone will take effect by sometime [Saturday].’’
It’s the second time in two weeks the neck problem forced Teixeira out of the lineup.
