Luis Severino gets rotation tryout — with no prep

TORONTO — Luis Severino will start Monday for the first time since Aug. 14, but it’s not exactly the situation he or the Yankees envisioned.

Filling in for Masahiro Tanaka — who is out with a strained flexor mass in his right forearm — Severino will try to keep the Yankees’ ever-falling playoff dreams alive against the Blue Jays.

He is not certain how far he will be able to go, because he hasn’t thrown more than 40 pitches in a game since Sept. 7.

Still, he is looking forward to getting another shot at being in the rotation after being shifted to the bullpen when he was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this month.
