NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — The Braves signed Jacob Lindgren to a one-year major league contract after he was non-tendered last week by the Yankees.
The Yanks, with a deep farm system, didn’t want to use a 40-man roster spot on Lindgren, who had Tommy John surgery in August and likely will miss all of 2017. But they were hoping to re-sign him to a minor league deal much as they did with others in recent years whom they took off the 40-man roster, but still liked, such as Vicente Campos, Domingo German and Slade Heathcott.
Lindgren was a second-round pick in 2014, but the Yankees’ first selection.
