Yankees reminded things aren’t always so grim in laugher

The famous quote from Joe DiMaggio — “I want to thank the Good Lord for making me a Yankee” — could easily have been tweaked on this Memorial Day.

It could have read: “I want to thank the Good Lord for Jeremy Guthrie.”

If ever a team needed an opposing pitcher to throw batting practice and make their batters feel like Bronx Bombers again, for one day at least, it was the reeling pinstriped team that plays in The House That Replaced The House That Ruth Built.

Three home runs in an eight-run first, three three-run home runs in the first two innings, four home runs off Guthrie, five home runs overall, six-game losing streak over.
