Yankees Rumors: Yankees to look at Cuban players to fill roster holes

In the first batch of Yankees rumors for today, New York Yankees' General Manager Brian Cashman may be looking internationally, and more specifically toward Cuba, to fill the remaining roster holes in the Bronx.

Cashman went on the record earlier this week to discuss the Yankees' plan going forward after signing Japanese pitching sensation Masahiro Tanaka to a 7-year, $155 contract on Wednesday--

“I think clearly a lot of heavy lifting needed to take place this winter, and it has taken place." The Yankees' general manager acknowledged that the Bronx Bombers still have work to do, stating that New York is "just going to have to realistically do it in a much cheaper way going forward.”

There is a glut of cost-effective Cuban talent hitting the 2014 international amateur free agent market. The most notable of these talents from a Yankees' perspective is  shortstop Aledmys Diaz, who although unable to sign until February 19th, has a solid glove and had a.315/.404/.500 line in his last season in Cuba. If signed, he would help to address the New York Yankees' needs on the left side of their infield, which many perceive to be the Yankees' biggest weakness.
