Yankees Rumors: Mathematician Predicts Second-Place Finish For New York In 2015

NJIT professor and respected mathematician Bruce Bukiet has crunched the numbers on all 30 MLB teams, and while his calculations project that the New York Mets will slide into a wild card spot in the National League, they're not as optimistic about the New York Yankees' chances to reach the postseason

Bukiet's prediction has the Yankees finishing with 80 wins -- good for second place in the AL East behind the 85-win division champion Toronto Blue Jays.

However, Bukiet says that even that comes as a pleasant surprise to some of his friends who are Yankees fans.

"I would show them this, that the Yankees had 80 wins, and [they'd say] 'The Yankees are going to do that well? How are they going to get 80 wins?'" he explained, via NJ.com. "The Yankees fans I know, they're not really expecting a whole lot out of the Yankees. I think their consolation is that their division is very tight. I have the Blue Jays winning the division, but the Yankees, the Red Sox and the Rays -- they're all in it."
