Yankees Rumors: Likely Opening Day lineup revealed before yesterday's rainout

The world of Yankees rumors is ready for Opening Day, just over 48 hours away in Houston against the Astros.

However, it was an exhibition game left unplayed due to rain which will probably give us our best glimpse into what the Yankees' lineup will look like come pitch one on Opening Day.

The starting lineup submitted by NY Yankees manager Joe Girardi prior to yesterday's rainout of an exhibition contest against the Miami Marlins will most likely function as the Yankees' working lineup come Tuesday at Minute Maid Park.

Chat Sports has gotten a hold of the lineup submitted by Girardi, and it reads as follows:

1. Jacoby Ellsbury CF

2. Derek Jeter SS

3. Carlos Beltran RF

4. Brian McCann C

5. Mark Teixeira 1B

6. Alfonso Soriano DH

7. Brett Gardner LF

8. Brian Roberts 2B

9. Kelly Johnson 3B

SP: C.C. Sabathia

The most notable thing about this lineup is left fielder Brett Gardner hitting seventh, rather than his expected slot in the nine hole. Many experts who follow the NY Yankees believed that manager Joe Girardi would slot Gardner ninth to get a double lead-off hitter effect when the lineup turns over to Jacoby Ellsbury in the one hole.

As always, this lineup is subject to change. Stay tuned to Chat Sports for more NY Yankees coverage up to Opening Day, and all season long as the Yankees try to send captain Derek Jeter into retirement on a championship note.
