Yankees Rumors: Does Stephen Drew still make sense for the Yankees?

Chat Sports is fielding Yankees rumors left and right as we approach Spring Training, and it seems that a once-thought-dead rumor involving the New York Yankees and a certain former Boston Red Sox shortstop may be getting revived.

According to the Sporting News' Jesse Spector, 30-year-old shortstop Stephen Drew, who has been subject to massive speculation about whether or not he will be wearing Yankee pinstripes this coming season, could still be the right fit for the New York Yankees going forward "as insurance/an eventual replacement for Derek Jeter, and part of the infield picture otherwise."

The New York Mets, who have been recently linked to Stephen Drew as a potential suitor, have not actually made a former contract offer to Drew as of yet. This, according to Spector, is due to "that dreaded qualifying offer from the Red Sox, which means that if he goes somewhere other than Boston, it’s going to cost Drew’s new team a draft pick."

As we get closer to the season, it is starting to look more and more like the New York Yankees could be one of the only teams able to take the monetary and compensatory risk for Drew.
