Yankees News: Mets give Derek Jeter artwork, donation to his charity

In Yankees news today, the sometimes-contentious rivalry between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets took a heartwarming turn in light of Derek Jeter's impending retirement.

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN.com, the Mets have given the Yankees captain a piece of artwork and a donation to his charity out of respect for the future Hall-of-Famer's last season as an active player:

The Mets presented Derek Jeter with the gift -- a No. 2 mosaic designed using subway tiles -- at a 5 p.m. ceremony in a conference room, not in an on-field ceremony. They handled Chipper Jones and Mariano Rivera's retirements the same way. The Mets also donated $22,222.22 to Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation charity.

The Mets also had the bakers from the popular series "Cake Boss" create a custom cake in honor of what looks to be Jeter's final Subway Series game (barring a World Series match-up).

Jeter's collection of retirement gifts is growing, ranging from Yankees cowboy boots (Houston Astros) to a bronzed bat (Milwaukee Brewers).
