Yankees News: Alex Rodriguez "Anxious" About Playing First Base

The New York Yankees originally planned to sit slugger Alex Rodriguez for the team's upcoming two-game series in D.C. against the Washington Nationals, seeing that the team won't be able to utilize the designated hitter spot in a National League park.

However, after first baseman Mark Teixeira took a 95-mph slider to his foot on Sunday in Kansas City, it's possible A-Rod could be thrust into service as Teix's replacement.

It was originally planned Rodriguez wouldn't play much outside of a pinch-hit or two since the Yankees will give up the DH playing in a National League park. (And Rodriguez has been pretty much told he's no longer a third baseman.)

It's like Bill Lumberg calling in Peter Gibbons to work the weekend in Office Space.

Rodriguez seemed anxious at the prospect of playing first, which he's done once this year, about five weeks ago.

"What'd Joe [Girardi] say?" Rodriguez said after Sunday's game about playing first.

Rodriguez was told Girardi was considering it, if need be. ("Could, yeah," Girardi told reporters.)

"Yeah, whatever Joe wants, I'm ready," Rodriguez said.
