Yankee Game 26: Late inning loss overshadows Whitley’s performance

Toronto Blue Jays 3 — New York Yankees 1

So far this season, when the Yankees enter the eighth inning, the feeling from both teams and the crowd is that the game is over. With Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances at the back end of the bullpen, the Yankees shorten games. However, with Miller unavailable for tonight’s game, Joe Girardi went to Chris Martin to start the eighth after Chase Whitley (no decision) had one of the best games of his career and the season for New York.

Whitley gave up six hits and struck out six in seven scoreless innings.
