Rangers new backup goalie rooted against his team during playoffs

The Rangers have to be hoping that something was lost in translation.

Earlier this summer, the Blueshirts traded for 26-year-old Finnish netminder Antti Raanta to have him back up Henrik Lundqvist in nets. Raanta recently told a newspaper in his native Finland that last season with the Blackhawks, he was hoping his team would get swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Predators so he could return home to Finland quicker.

“With fingers crossed I hoped [Nashville] would beat us in four so I could get back to Finland sooner,” he said to the publication Ilta-Sanomat, according to Finnish journalist Vesa Rantanen.
