John Amirante returns to sing Anthem at Garden … at least for Game 5

John Amirante, the longtime national anthem singer for Rangers’ games at the Garden, was back singing before Game 5 of the Eastern Conference final on Sunday night.

“It’s fabulous,” he said. “It takes me back to ’94.”

Amirante, 80, had a contentious split with the Garden on April 18, when he publicly said he was told Game 2 of the first round against the Penguins would be his last time singing. It was an incident that Sunday he called “an embarrassment.”

There was a public outcry from fans, and the Garden said he would be invited back as a guest singer from time to time.
