Mets waste opportunities in Game 1 loss to Cardinals, presented by W.B. Mason

Noah Syndergaard allowed two earned runs over six innings but the Mets daily struggles in the clutch contributed heavily to their 3-2 loss in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader at Citi Field.

In case you missed it…

  • Syndergaard (9-5) needed 114 pitches to navigate through six innings, allowing three runs - two earned - on seven hits and three walks while striking out eight. His throwing error on a comebacker with the bases loaded and one out in the second allowed the Cardinals to jump ahead. He surrendered a two-run homer to Jed Gyorko in the third.
