Jose Reyes was never indestructible, even when he was in his prime.
So it seemed like the Mets might be asking for trouble by playing the 33-year-old every game after calling him up from the minors this month. On Tuesday, in his last at-bat of the Mets’ 3-2 loss to St. Louis in the first game of a doubleheader at Citi Field, Reyes suffered a Grade 1 left intercostal strain.
The injury left Reyes unavailable for the second game, a 3-2 victory, and figures to sideline him for at least a few days, according to manager Terry Collins.
