Ray Mabus, the Secretary of the Navy, carries as big a responsibility as his job title sounds. Yet, he spent his Memorial Day afternoon at Citi Field on Monday, reminding Mets fans their leader isn’t just an ordinary guy but someone built for tough times like the Mets have been going through lately.
“Sandy doesn’t just have a military background, he’s a Marine, which is the ultimate in the military,” Mabus said of Mets general manager Sandy Alderson before the Mets opened a six-game homestand. “And he’s not a former Marine. He’s a Marine. Once you’re Marine you’re always a Marine.
