In a best-case scenario, David Wright could return to the Mets by this weekend.
The Mets captain, who is recovering from a strained right hamstring, will begin baseball activities on Monday in Port St. Lucie, Fla., according to manager Terry Collins, and might be in position for a Saturday return to the club.
Wright is eligible to be removed from the disabled list on Thursday.
“I don’t think [Thursday] is really realistic, but if he’s back here by Saturday that would be good,” Collins said before the Mets lost 6-4 to the Yankees.
Eric Campbell is expected to remain the starter at third base until Wright returns.
