Knicks fire assistant to clear way for Porzingis-friendly choice

With the club eyeing Pablo Prigioni as an addition to the Knicks staff, assistant coach Josh Longstaff has been fired, according to a team source.

Longstaff came from Oklahoma City as part of Derek Fisher’s original coaching staff to start the 2014-15 season and had become more of a developmental coach, working out with players.

Coincidently or not, Longstaff was dispatched to Latvia last summer to work with Kristaps Porzingis, who recently has been at odds with team brass. Janis Porzingis, at his brother’s press conference in Latvia late last month, said he expected Longstaff would again head to Latvia to work with the 7-foot-3 forward over the summer despite the player’s current rift with management.
