Knicks Trade Rumors: Tyson Chandler to Warriors for David Lee, Harrison Barnes?

In today's look into Knicks rumors and news, the New York Knicks could have a potential reunion on their hands if they decide that they can part with center Tyson Chandler via trade this offseason.

Per Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the Golden State Warriors could be looking to land Chandler in order to provide insurance for oft-injured Andrew Bogut. Yet, how exactly would this trade work?

"One trade that would work financially for both teams? A swap of David Lee and Harrison Barnes in exchange for Chandler," Begley wrote in an article on Saturday. "It is unclear at this point if either team would consider such a swap."

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith believes that both teams would at least be intrigued by the possibility of making such a deal work.

“I believe there’s a possibility that the Golden State Warriors would trade those two guys for Tyson Chandler,” Smith said. “I’m not saying it’s definite but I really believe in my heart they would do it. And if there’s a possibility that they would do it, the New York Knicks have got to investigate it.”

One foreseeable problem would be David Lee's contract. The former Knick is signed through the 2015-16 season and is scheduled to make $15.5 million in the final year of his deal. By trading away Chandler's expiring deal ($14.5 million in 2014-15) and assuming Lee's cap number for the 2015 offseason, the Knicks would be severely hampered in the free agency market next summer.

Barnes has a team options for the 2015-16 season, making him expendable after next season if it comes to that.

Regardless, this all currently just speculative. The Knicks will be active on the open market this offseason. We're just still waiting on what that will entail.
