Knicks Rumors Roundup: Jameer Nelson, Murry to free agency, Melo schedule

In today's Knicks Rumors Roundup, the New York Knicks could find themselves as one of the favorites for the services from a former All-Star while they attempt to retain one of their own perennial All-Stars in free agency.

Jameer Nelson to the Knicks?

Waived by the Orlando Magic in a cost-saving move (clearing $6 million off in cap space), point guard Jameer Nelson will find himself as a coveted asset on this year's free-agent market.

According to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com, Nelson's decision in free agency could have a lot to do with his two homes - one which is just a quick plane ride away from New York:

The Knicks haven't actively expressed interest, but don't rule it out in this wide-open market.

Knicks decline qualifying offer to Toure' Murry

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the Knicks have declined a qualifying offer to Toure Murry - changing his free agent status from restricted to unrestricted.

Several teams will most likely express interest in Murry, who impressed in limited minutes with New York in 2013-14. With a large cache of guards headed by recently-acquired Jose Calderon, the Knicks could very well see Murry as expendable - choosing to focus their free-agent dollars elsewhere.

Melo to meet with Chicago on Tuesday

While the New York Knicks remain both publicly and privately optimistic about their chances to retain superstar Carmelo Anthony, the free-agent circus surrounding Melo will begin anyways on Tuesday.

Anthony is slated to visit with the Bulls on Tuesday, the Mavs and Rockets on Wednesday, and the Lakers sometime next week.

The Knicks will most likely attempt to maintain lines of communication with Anthony throughout his travels - dangling the extra year and $34 million of security they can potentially offer on a max contract.
