Knicks Rumors: New York not optimistic about Marc Gasol, to target Reggie Jackson in free agency?

The New York Knicks are reportedly not thrilled about their chances of landing coveted 2015 free agent and Memphis Grizzlies big man Marc Gasol, per a report by ESPN New York's Ian Begley.

In fact, Begley indicates that the Knicks are likely to bypass the frontline of free agent next summer in hopes of landing second and third-tier free agents such as Oklahoma City Thunder guard Reggie Jackson while saving up enough cap space to make a legitimate run at Jackson's current teammate, Kevin Durant, in 2016:

The feeling among some around the league is that the Knicks will instead target second- and third-tier free agents this summer and maintain some cap flexibility for the summer of 2016, when a free-agent class headlined by Kevin Durant becomes available.

One name to keep an eye on this summer is Reggie Jackson. NBA people expect the Knicks to have interest in Jackson, who can test free agency this summer. Jackson likely will be a restricted free agent. But with Oklahoma City having obtained Dion Waiters, the club may not break the bank to retain Jackson.

The Knicks likely will be far from quiet next summer as they try to retool the roster after what has already been a dismal 2014-15 campaign. However, don't be surprised if they save the big guns for the summer after - especially if they feel themselves to have a puncher's chance at pairing Carmelo Anthony with Durant.
