Knicks News: Iman Shumpert Takes The Blame For Deron Williams' Big Night

New York Knicks shooting guard Iman Shumpert was forced into duty at the point against the Brooklyn Nets due to the team's rash of injuries.

Despite his length, Shumpert looked overmatched against Nets point guard Deron Williams. Williams had his way all night long, going 10-for-15 from the field for 29 points in Brooklyn's 110-99 victory over the Knicks.

“I’m going to take this one,” said Shumpert, via Fred Kerber of the New York Post. “Deron Williams got to do whatever he wanted out there. I got to get better with controlling the ball after him coming off the ball screen. I didn’t do a good job of that tonight."

“As a reflection of that, our bigs got in foul trouble, they hit 3s from everywhere on the court because he kept getting into that paint. I [have] got to do a better job of getting over the ball screens and not letting him get into our defense.”

It got so bad for Shumpert out there that he had to wave teammates over at times in hopes of containing Williams.

“My teammates aren’t used to be me begging for help. I’m usually able to get over the screens and find a way,” Shumpert stated matter-of-factly.

“Tonight he had his way with me. I’ll take that."
