Knicks Coaching Search: Top 3 Candidates As Of May 22nd

The Knicks coaching search continues in earnest, with another member of the Phil Jackson coaching tree entering our list at the number one spot. Who is it? Find out as we present to you our  Top 3 Knicks Coaching Candidates As Of May 22nd:

3. Kurt Rambis

Rambis' familiarity with the triangle offense will keep him near the top of this list for the majority of this search. His close relationship with Knicks president Phil Jackson could land him the job when all is said and done. Although Kurt Rambis totaled just 32 victories in his two years as Minnesota Timberwolves head coach from 2009-11, his second chance could very well be in New York - if only to communicate Jackson's will from the front office to the court.

2. Derek Fisher

Derek Fisher to the rescue...maybe? Is the Knicks' coaching search really on hold for someone who has no NBA head coaching experience whatsoever? Does this seem like a repeat performance from a previous courtship? Are we asking a lot of questions? Yes, but with Derek Fisher at this point, there really are no answers to speak of until the OKC Thunder are eliminated from the NBA Playoffs.

1. Brian Shaw

Here's the skinny from Marc Berman of the New York Post: "Jackson, the Knicks president, prefers Shaw over Fisher, but the Nuggets would require the Knicks to pay compensation. That appears to be a bigger roadblock to getting Shaw out of his Denver contract than Shaw’s reluctance to come to New York."

If Jackson's protegee is actually the number one man in this search, don't be surprised if the Knicks are willing to pony up to grab him - especially in the light of what they may have had to pay for Steve Kerr.
