Knicks Coaching Rumors: Top 3 Candidates As Of May 18th

No Steve Kerr, no problem. Knicks coaching rumors have plenty of other options to analyze over the next few weeks, with Phil Jackson's personal coaching tree providing the majority of the buzz surrounding the team's vacant head coaching position. With that in mind, here are the Top 3 Knicks Coaching Candidates As Of May 18th:

3. Luke Walton

As the NY Daily News indicates, "in his 2013 autobiography, “Eleven Rings,” [Phil] Jackson praised Walton for his high basketball IQ, willingness to learn and, most importantly, grasp of the triangle offense." Phil Jackson is reportedly looking for a young coach that he can mentor, and Luke Walton is one of the names being tossed around. Think it's crazy? Perhaps, but Walton's got chops and Jackson potentially in his corner.

2. Derek Fisher

It's an interesting time in the NBA. Proven coaching candidates (George Karl, Jeff Van Gundy) are being relegated to the background when coaches with limited to no coaching experience are getting top billing (especially in the Big Apple). He's the closest thing to an on-court head coach in the league, and his basketball IQ (combined with the powers of the Zen Master) could end up being a relatively limited-risk, high-reward proposition for New York.

1. Kurt Rambis

Of all the options currently on the board, Kurt Rambis makes the most sense. He's due for a second chance in the profession, he's extremely knowledgeable of the triangle offense, and he's got the full blessing of Phil Jackson. If Rambis can act as an extension of Jackson onto the court at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks could very well morph into Lakers East. Now, the question is whether or not the fans (and NY media) want that...
